MUSCAT, NOV 7

From mountain peaks to stretches of desert, and from the charm of the wadis to the beauty of its coasts and islands, Oman offers what organisers of a new exhibition call "a diverse world of adventure and camping experiences".

That landscape is the starting point for Oman Camp Expo 2026, a specialised exhibition for camping, adventure and outdoor trips that will run from December 30 to January 2 at the Oman Automobile Association.

The expo was officially launched on Tuesday at Al Qimam Hall at Active Oman, under the auspices of HH Sayyid Mohammed bin Thuwaini al Said.

For its organisers, the expo is meant to be more than a showroom for tents and gear.

"Our ambition is not limited to holding an exhibition. It extends to helping create a destination, build a sector and generate new opportunities that start from Oman and reach the region and the world", said Sulaiman al Habsi, Chairman of the Organising Committee.

Organised in cooperation with the Oman Automobile Association, the expo stems from a belief in Oman's exceptional natural assets and unique geographical diversity, which make it a promising destination for camping, adventure and outdoor tourism, he said.

It aims to bring together companies, brands, investors, entrepreneurs and adventure enthusiasts, opening the door to business partnerships, creating economic opportunities and promoting Oman's tourism assets. He also hopes it will support the presence of Omani businesses in the sector.

Billed as a platform bringing together adventure, tourism and investment, the expo will highlight what organisers call the adventure economy. It spans vehicles, camping equipment, technology, tourism, hospitality and services, offering opportunities for growth, innovation and business.

Waddah al Harthi, Events Manager at the Oman Automobile Association, said the expo is a new addition to the association's events calendar and part of its efforts to promote a culture of camping, road trips and adventure.

"We aim, through Oman Camp Expo 2026, to offer an integrated experience that brings together a passion for adventure and an introduction to Oman's natural and tourism assets", he said. "Oman has a unique geographical diversity that makes it an ideal destination for those who love camping, road trips and exploration".

He said the association hopes the expo will support institutions, entrepreneurs and those working in camping and outdoor tourism, strengthening partnerships and opening opportunities for cooperation and investment.

Under the banner "Safe adventure, sustainable nature", organisers are promoting responsible camping and adventure built on safety, awareness, environmental protection, clean energy and sustainable practices, "to preserve our nature and protect it for future generations".

Al Habsi hoped the expo would spark initiatives promoting safe and sustainable camping, while al Harthi said the association wants to encourage people to discover Omani nature through responsible practices.

Al Harthi invited companies, institutions and adventure enthusiasts to take part, stressing that the expo's success depends on cooperation and community engagement.

The association's ambition, he said, is for Oman Camp Expo to become a major annual fixture on the country's camping and adventure calendar.
